The Bakers’ Benevolent Society will continue to provide the highest quality of Welfare and Care to Retired members of the Baking Industry and Allied Trades, including their dependants, through its provision of sheltered accommodation and financial support”.
The Society has around 60 residents living at Bakers’ Villas in Epping Essex enjoying the benefits of sheltered housing with on site warden/carers, subsidised lunches, hairdresser and chiropodist. Please click on the links to Accommodation and Resident Activity to find out more.
The Society also currently supports a number of retired beneficiaries still living in their own homes with –
- weekly charitable grants to top-up their basic Government pensions
- the purchase of mobility aids
- life-lines and telephone rentals
- the purchase of household essential items
The BBS can also provide extra funds to assist in times of emergency or a simple gift that can convey the message that they are not forgotten by the Industry to which they were so dedicated.
The vital work of the Society is funded by voluntary donations from Bakers, Suppliers and the individual generosity of people connected with the Industry, which is critical in enabling this care to continue. The unstinting voluntary efforts of the Trustees, who come from all parts of the Industry, play a vital role in the management of the Society. The Society needs your donation to be able to continue its most valuable work of providing care and support to the retired members of the industry. The pensioners who receive help have come to rely on the support that the Society provides – we cannot let them down now!
